Who Is Captain Moroni?

Who was Captain Moroni?

“Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men.”

“And Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of a perfect understanding; yea, a man that did not delight in bloodshed; a man whose soul did joy in the liberty and the freedom of his country, and his brethren from bondage and slavery; Yea, a man whose heart did swell with thanksgiving to his God, for the many privileges and blessings which he bestowed upon his people; a man who did labor exceedingly for the welfare and safety of his people.
Yea, and he was a man who was firm in the faith of Christ, and he had sworn with an oath to defend his people, his rights, and his country, and his religion, even to the loss of his blood.”

Captain Moroni (c. 100 BC-56 BC) was an important Nephite military commander and patriot who lived during the 1st century BC. He is perhaps best known for raising the "Title of Liberty" as a call to arms for his people to defend their country, family and religion. He is first mentioned in the Book of Alma, as "the chief captain over the Nephites.

Among his accomplishments were his extensive preparations for battle and his fierce defense of the right of the Nephites to govern themselves and worship as they saw fit.
Moroni was "only twenty and five years old when he was appointed chief captain" of the Nephites.

The "Title of Liberty", a standard which he raised to rally the Nephites to defend their liberties from a group of dissenters who wanted to establish their leader as a king. He rent his coat and wrote upon it, "In memory of our God, our religion, our freedom, and our peace, our wives and our children"

The Book of Mormon And Freedom

The Book of Mormon speaks about the last days, and warns about what issues we will face that will tear at the foundations of liberty. We must seek learning, even by studying and faith. Seek learning out of the best books. Christ taught that liberty is precious, he came to free us all. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ, who is the God of this land. I encourage all to read it, and to use the knowledge of how to protect your liberty today. You can get a free copy of the Book here.

Next, we will discuss Captain Moroni, a General from Ancient times, who raised the Title of Liberty and given the compliment that if all men were as he is, that the powers of hell would have been shaken forever, that the devil would never have power over men.

May we all seek to become like Moroni, fight for the liberty of all men, and have many say of us, the words that were written of him.
